I had tried many times to take a turkey with my bow but to no avail. I just couldn't get one in close enough for a shot without them seeing me when I moved to draw my bow. I finely bought a Hidden Hunter blind to keep me concealed when I drew my bow. 

It was the morning of the first day and as dawn broke I could hear turkeys gobbling in the distance. I did my best to sound like a hen turkey on my slate call. A gobbler answered from a distance but didn't come in. I was getting discouraged when I saw movement in the brush about 30 yards in front of my blind. I had a hen and a gobbler decoy 10 yards in front of me and a turkey was coming in to check them out. I gripped my 52" 50# Shrew bow with a cedar arrow on the string, a big 2 blade broadhead  on the tip. The turkey suddenly was in the clear coming straight to the decoys.....it was a hen. Only tom turkeys were legal so I was disappointed....but wait, this hen had a beard and bearded hens were legal.

The hen circled the decoys, I raised my bow and started to draw. She never saw me move as I sat back in the dark of the blind. The arrow flashed out and took her behind the wing angling forward. She took a hop then fell over flopping on the ground.  I couldn't remember making the shot, I just remember looking at the spot I wanted to hit and my Shrew bow did the rest. "Ron LaClair"

It`s every time great to get pics out of Ron`s history. Just remember the great time at our Shrew Have hunting camp fall 2019 together with Ron and a few other hunting buddies. Hanging around in the Shrew Haven hunting cabin and to listen Ron talking bowhunting and telling stories out of his life.
