DOES A BODNIK BOW NEED ANY SPECIAL CARE?
HOW DO YOU HAVE TO CARE FOR A BODNIK BOW?
I was asked this exact question in an email last week!
Since this question comes up again and again, I decided to answer it here once and for all for all archers and bow hunters who shoot one (or more) of our Bodnik Bows! There is, of course, more in-depth information about our bow finish considerations you should take for the proper care of your Bodnik Bows.
Here is the short yet very clear answer!
No, you don't have to add any treatments or ensure any special care for a Bodnik Bow!
In the picture below you can see my own Mohawk Chief during a rainy hunting day in Michigan!
RAINY Hunting DAY IN MICHIGAN
Our Bodnik Bows have been thoroughly tested in extended use on 3D courses and during archery tournaments and have proven themselves all over the world as rugged no-maintenance-needed bows! We build tough high-performance bows with extraordinary materials and quality finishes!
All Bodnik Bows are sealed with our specially formulated Action Lacquer. Our now famous, durable bow finish took nearly two years to develop and was the combined efforts of Bodnik Bows and a well-known German manufacturer. It seals and perfectly protects our Bodnik Bows against all moisture and withstands those hard knocks bows can be subjected to while out on the target and 3D courses and also in the bowhunting forests!
Even when things get rough and the bows are subjected to dirt, dust or even harder objects, our Action Lacquer protects extremely very well. Of course, this impressive lacquer can't be expected to work miracles! If your bow is physically damaged by excessive abrasion or sharp blows with harder objects - your finish can become compromised. In order to keep this to a minimum, our special formula contains small textured stratifications. That's why our Bodnik Bows feels a bit rough. It can happen in the blink of an eye, a bow falls over or tilts to the side and falls on a tough root or even lands on rocky ground.
In order to avoid damaging the surface of these bows if they encounter situations of abrasion over a large surface area, these structural stratifications contained in our paint help it minimize any damage. These ingenious small raised 'tips' protruding from the smooth surface absorb most of the energy and prevent or minimize damage to the bow itself!
Considerations for your personal bows.
PAINTING THE BODNIK BOWS
When your new Bodnik bow arrives at your home, it is perfectly varnished and sealed. In the course of NORMAL use, it is possible that your bow may become damaged. It is important that these bows are completely sealed at all times with our Action Lacquer. If your paint (protective layer) is clearly damaged, it is no longer guaranteed that your bow is protected against moisture. Moisture can penetrate into your bow and cause damage. If the exposed wood in the bow absorbs moisture it will swells up! This changes its dimensions and the bow can be destroyed!
So, if the finish on your Bodnik Bow is ever damaged, it is high time to contact Bearpaw Products to have the bow refinished.
Here are two final tips!
1. We strongly recommend that you regularly inspect the bow for any damage and initiate a bow refinish at once.
2. In order to take advantage of the best possible performance of your Bodnik Bows, we strongly recommend that you shoot all Bodnik Bows with our special high-performance Whisper Strings! I personally shoot all my Bodnik Bows only and exclusively with an 8 strand whisper string!
